Jewelry Making Is Fun!
Jewelry making is fun and easy. I began making my own jewelry just a few years ago when a friend of mine had a jewelry making party. She had all the supplies, wire, tools, beads, clasps, hooks, and lots and lots of examples. Since we were all beginners she taught us some simple techniques so that we were able to make something we could wear immediately.
I really enjoyed making my own necklaces, earrings and bracelets and quickly found that it was a lot more fun and cost effective to create my own jewelry.
A favorite practice of mine is when I find a piece that I really like and think I can make, I snap a photo of it on my phone and go about recreating it. I can’t always find the exact same beads or crystals so I improvise. I find that my creations are often better than the original and a lot less expensive.
Some of my favorite beads to work with are Swarovski crystals. They are somewhat more expensive, but they are sparkly and beautiful and definitely worth the extra cost. Use them as accent pieces to provide flashes of sparkle.
I usually purchase my supplies at discount stores like Walmart and Target. Although you can find basic supplies at those stores, I prefer to buy my beads and specialty items at Michaels or local bead shops. Local stores often are more expensive but carry unique items that you won’t find elsewhere.
I like to keep all my supplies organized so I can always find just what I need and always know exactly what I have. I use storage containers made specifically for beading that are available at craft stores. Tackle boxes also make good containers for jewelry making supplies.
Learning to bead and make jewelry is fun and there are tons of resources available to help you learn. Books, online tutorials and videos are some of the easiest ways to get started beading today. Good luck and have fun.
